Sumerian Marble Cylinder Seal // Ancient Near East Ca. 2nd millennium BCE
Product Description
A white, almost green, marble cylinder seal incised with a motif depicting three human figures – probably representing gods – and a dog. This may be a depiction of the goddess Gula/Ninkarrak, known as the “Lady of Health.” Her most prominent cult center was in Isin, in modern day Iraq, where her temple was named the Dog Temple.
This fantastic piece is mounted on a custom-made wooden base, depicting the inscriptions of the seal.
