Georg Witzel was a 16th-century German theologian who converted from Catholicism after hearing the teachings of Martin Luther. He wrote a collection of large, extraordinary works including a historical view and account of the Old and New Testaments. In this work, ‘Historiarum de Divis tam Veteris Quam Novi Testamenti’, Witzel offers his commentary on the books of the Bible, descriptions of prominent characters, and marginal references throughout. This 1557 edition was published in Basel and features charming, decorative initials.
