Teotihuacan Turquoise Mask Pendant // Mexico Ca. 200-400 CE
Product Description
Hhand-carved 1,700 years ago in ancient Mexico, this Teotihuacan Turquoise Mask Pendant is among the most celebrated items of ancient Mesoamerican artistry and craftsmanship. It is composed of turquoise, which was regarded as a ‘sky stone’ and related closely to the sun, fire, and meteors.
Teotihuacan was a Mesoamerican civilization that reached its peak around the sixth century— five hundred years before the Aztecs migrated from northwestern Mexico. The skilled craftsmanship and the exquisite mosaic patterning would have been greatly admired by the Aztecs, as it is by people today.
