A fine oval agate intaglio hand-carved more than 1,600 years ago! It depicts a profile helmet and sword. A superb example of classical ancient jewelry.
The engraving of gemstones was a major luxury art form in the Ancient world, and an important one in some later periods. A carved intaglio ring was once worn by every powerful businessman so he might authenticate documents by stamping it into a hot wax seal.
