These are rare beautiful spondylus Pre-Columbian beads from the Chimu Civilization of Peru. Spondylus, otherwise known as the "thorny oyster" or "spiny oyster", held important ceremonial and ritual significance to many of the prehistoric cultures in the Americas, with trading of the highly prized beads and shells extending into Chile as well as North America. This particular piece features splendid Pre-Columbian spondylus shell graduated beads set in a contemporary silver mounting from France.
