The Cafe Terrace on the Place du Forum, Arles, at Night 1888, also called Café Terrace at Night and Coffee House in the Evening, is one of van Gogh's most famous works. It shows a pleasantly lit popular cafe, capturing a moment of French nightlife. It also marks the beginning of van Gogh's obsession with starry night skies.

Vincent van Gogh (1853—1890) went from relative obscurity during his lifetime to becoming one of the most recognized names in 19th century art. The Dutch post-Impressionist painter's work is characterized by rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color. Unfortunately, he did not start painting until his 20's and died at the young age of 37.
