Product Description
Ordinary headphones have a cone shape diaphragm typically made out of paper, plastic or metal. They are known as electro-dynamic transducers, and they work electromagnetically to move air, which arrives at your ears as a sound wave, dispersing sound radially from the speaker's center.
Instead of this magnet and cone diaphragm structure, the JP1 Portable Electrostatic Headphones use a large, heavily-biased (high voltage) ultra-thin plastic membrane, sandwiched between two conductive stator plates to reproduce the sound. This makes them a linear source, so the music disperses evenly over the whole surface of the diaphragm, while sound waves radiate from the front and rear. The membrane is also not enclosed in a cabinet, making them lighter and slighter than most headphones, with a distinct acoustic profile.
