For how long does the effect last in terms of life?

We have been using this type of glow material for 3 years now and it still
has not faded from those rings. The life expectancy is supposed to be
closer to 10 years.

Do I have to take it off to wash my hands?

No, you do not. They are carbon fiber so they are hypoallergenic and not
harmed by soap.
