About the Designer

Founder Mathew Neilson has been sewing and crafting leathergoods since the age of 17. What started as a hobby 12 years ago has slowly transformed into MATBLAC, one of South Africa’s finest premium leather goods producers.
Unlike any other South African luxury leather goods company MATBLAC designs and produces all their LEATHER HARDWARE in-house. This ensures a level of perfection not normally associated with the country. Machinery imported from Germany, tooling from Japan and local European quality Bullhide all come together at the MATBLAC Headquarters in Cape Town.

All staff are previously retrenched seamstresses trained by Mathew during a grueling one year internship. This allows him to impart a love for fine workmanship, as well as the unique skills he developed over more than a decade of experience.
