To prevent his death, his mother dipped Achilles into the River Styx, granting him powers of invulnerability with the exception of his heel which was not washed over by the magical water. After becoming the hero of the Trojan war, Achilles was struck down with an arrow that landed on Achilles’ heel, the only vulnerable part of his body.
