M.C. Escher // Ascending and Descending
Product Description
Escher used a mathematically advanced approach to art that was influenced by intricate Spanish tile patterns, jumbles of houses and maze-like streets in Italy. This print plays with architectural composition, mysterious people, and layers of detail that demand a second look.

About the Designer
Possessing the soul of an artist and the ingenious mind of an mathematician, world famous graphic artist M.C. Escher was lauded and studied by scientists, mathematicians and crystallographers. Escher (1898-1972), a Dutchman, was himself a contradiction, disliking flat shapes as much as he disliked mathematics, yet his intrinsic knowledge inspired him to create visual ironies that defied concepts of infinity. Working with lithography, woodcutting and mezzotints, he manipulated space and geometric patterns, created implausible multi-dimension images of mathematical perfection.
