Here we have an absolutely stunning sample of the very rare element tellurium. Shards of metal looking every bit like they came off an artifact recovered in deep space. Not exactly alien, but just about as rare.

Tellurium is sufficiently inert to guarantee that it can remain in its elemental state on earth but the conditions necessary for this to occur, coupled with the metal's overall scarcity, make this an extremely rare event. It has found its industrial niche in electronics as a semiconductor with a set of unique characteristics. While supply is currently able to keep up with demand the lack of this commodity's abundance makes its future affordability quite uncertain.

Here, a piece broken off of a zone-refined crystal is embedded in a Lucite cube. and the purity is rated at an amazing 99.999%.
