Wright Stuff Collection // Set of 4
Product Description
If you're a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright, this set is for you. The Wright Stuff Collection includes four scale models iconic to Wright's collection of work. Each one represents his wide range of creativity and ingenuity.
Creating a new precedent for architecture with its spiraling organic form, Manhattan's Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is one of the world’s most recognizable buildings. Completed in 1959, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is an internationally renowned art museum and one of the most significant architectural icons of the 20th century. In this model, the swirling main building is fashioned from light Aspen wood and the newer tower of American Cherry. The kit’s precise adherence to the architect’s design ensures your completed model is as stunningly beautiful and iconic as the original.
Constructed between 1905 and 1908, Unity Temple is one of the few public buildings that was built in Wright's Prairie Style. In this model, meticulous details accurately convey the temple’s compact but imposing volumes. For example, the signature exterior columns are finely modeled. It even includes the famous quote engraved over the entrance: "For the worship of god and the service of man."
In 1936, Frank Lloyd Wright was given tremendous freedom to design the worldwide headquarters and administration buildings for SC Johnson and Son Company. The architect responded with a sprawling and towering statement that some describe as Wright's response to the Streamline Modern design aesthetic. In this model, the horizontal main building model is constructed of a mix of light and dark woods, highlighting the interplay between the unique brick and stone shapes. The tower incorporates clear elements to mirror the building’s unique glass tubing.
Wright coined the term Usonia to capture his idea of "affordable" architecture. His Usonian homes hug the earth both figuratively and literally. As in all of his homes, natural materials and colors are used throughout and the fireplace is a central feature. Jacobs I was completed in 1937 and is considered the first Usonian house. These homes share an open plan, allowing free flow and sight lines between the living room, dining room, and kitchen. This concept was incorporated in the typical American ranch house that became common starting in the 1950's. This model is detailed inside and out. Look through the windows and you can see the central fireplace. The contours of the site are modeled to give a sense of the home's relation to the earth. The brick and siding on the exterior are modeled to scale.
Each kit comes complete with all required parts. All you’ll need to provide is a good quality glue, a knife to remove individual parts from their sheets, and a flat work surface to construct the model. Select the Model Kit + Acrylic Display Case for a stunning display that protects your model, or choose the Finished Model + Acrylic Display Case if you'd rather not build it yourself.
To assemble this scale model, you will need a flat work surface that is at least 18" by 18"; white glue, brands like Elmers or Titebond Premium work well; and a knife to separate wood parts from the sheets.
