Laphroaig Elements 1.0 Limited Release is a premium single malt, boasting flavors of spicy pepper, charred pineapple, and tangy liquorice. As the inaugural release in the Elements series, it signifies a celebration of innovation and creativity in whisky making, ushering in a new era of experimentation with mashing and fermentation.
Crafted in two sizes of mash tun and featuring two types of wort, cloudy and semi-cloudy, our incredible distillery team gave themselves free rein to push boundaries. The flavor of Elements 1.0 has been elevated by a few key factors. While Laphroaig typically uses two 5.5 tonne mashes, for Elements, the team introduced an 8.5 tonne mash, reminiscent of pre-1990s practices, resulting in a unique blend of contemporary and historical styles.
From the mashes, they always extract semi-cloudy wort, imparting a fruity flavor without compromising the signature peaty punch. This time, they also pulled out the cloudy wort to intensify the peat and phenolics, enhancing the tropical fruit notes.
Personally overseen by Distillery Manager Barry MacAffer, this whisky underwent a 55-hour fermentation, creating an exciting, diverse, and experimental Laphroaig experience for you. While Laphroaig has explored various cask finishing and maturation styles before, the Elements series focuses on changing aspects of the distillery itself to discover new flavors.
The adventure doesn’t end with the spirit in Elements 1.0—its packaging features a unique design inspired by sketches from our distillery expansion plans in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Cheers to your truly distinctive and innovative Laphroaig experience!
