It's no secret that Scotland is renowned for its whiskies. Iodine-rich scotch from the Islay region is among the country's most characterful drams, with Laphroaig offering one of the most exceptional medicinal malts. The Laphroaig distillery was founded on the south coast of Islay by Alexander Johnston in 1815. Named after its location, ‘broad hollow by the bay,’ this family-owned and operated distillery benefited from a surplus of barley along with a water source that was particularly soft and peaty. The resulting whisky was one of exceptional character and highly appreciated by whisky blenders like Lagavulin. Its reputation spread around the globe, eventually becoming the first whisky to be given the International Spirit Challenge Trophy in 1999.
Laphroaig Select is their most approachable whisky. A blend of single malts hand-selected from five different casks, creating a mellow Scotch with balanced and complex flavour.
It’s only fitting that the perfect introduction to peated whisky draws from a broad range of casks in our storehouse. Sweet and smooth, Laphroaig® Select tells our two hundred year history of passionate distilling in every dram. To create the Laphroaig® Select blend, our Master Distiller hand-selected whiskies aged in Oloroso sherry butts, first-fill ex-Bourbon quarter casks and Pedro Ximenez sherry hogsheads at different levels of maturation. Finished in virgin American oak barrels – a rare wood source for Scotch whisky. Our most laid-back expression lets our signature flavors of medicinal peat smoke and seaweed shine, leaving plenty of room for notes of red fruit, lime, and a floral finish.
