The Ryukyu Islands are a chain of isolated lands lingering in crystal blue seas. This historic Japanese region blends a delightful maritime culture with delectable regional cuisine grown from rich beds of tropical soil. Among these islands is Okinawa, where time moves slow and community ties are strong. Known for the indigenous spirit Awamori, customary distilling techniques have evolved to bring a taste of Ryukyu to the world in the form of Kujira Single Grain Ryukyu Whisky.

Every Kujira Whisky is 100% made in Japan from long grain Indica Rice and Okinawa’s native black Koji. Every batch is a small one, never supplemented with foreign grain. Each expression is from a different Okinawa distillery and each a truly divine illustration of the idyllic land from which they came.

For decades, the Kumesen Syuzou Distilling Co. has been expertly crafting traditional Okinawa spirits made from Indica Rice and Black Koji. In 1989, a very limited amount of their liquid masterpiece was laid into bourbon casks, and thus began the ever-patient process behind this award-winning expression of Kujira Single Grain Ryukyu Whisky. Twenty years later, this artfully-aged and medium bodied whisky whisks the nose with stone fruits and subtle spice. A buttery caramel backbone balances with oak and candied-mint flavors to ignite every sip. Prepare for a touch of Japanese pepper among the malty finish, as you indulge in what’s sure to be a lasting icon in the world of Japanese Whisky.
