Schooner Yacht for Canton
Product Description
"Schooner Yacht for Canton" depicts a schooner yacht, which was designed by Samuel Humphreys in 1806 for the use of American merchants in Canton, China. The ship has run into its own lines plan, with the chip log hanging from the stern indicating that the crew was performing speed trials and was unable to stop in time. The original vessel was supposed to be a very fast one.
The lines plans shown are a copy of the original by maritime historian Howard I. Chapelle, which is kept in the National Musuem of American History & the Smithsonian Institution.
