Purple clay is natural clay unique to China, discovered around Taihu in Jiangsu during the Northern Song Dynasty. (1000-1200 A.D.). When fired, the purple clay assumes a fine and sandy texture that retains the temperature of the tea held inside longer than ordinary ceramics.

To use this press, you place medium-ground coffee into the press and add hot water. Cover the pitcher with the lid while the press is raised. After letting this sit and brew for a few minutes, slowly press the filter down forcing the grounds to the bottom and serve.
