In 1969, a 26 years old Jimi Hendrix was arrested in Toronto, Canada for possession of illegal drugs, later determined to be hashish and heroin. His lawyer later argued he had received a gift from a fan and was unaware of its contents. After he was acquitted, the legendary guitarist said, "Canada has given me the best Christmas present I ever had." He died the next year following an overdose of barbiturates.
