in the early 20th century, a man could be charged with "Seduction" for convincing an unmarried woman of good repute to engage in an inappropriate encounter by promising marriage when he had no intent to follow through. In 1938, a 23-year-old Frank Sinatra found himself arrested and booked for just that. The charge was eventually dropped when it was discovered that the supposedly single woman was in fact married. Later that year, armed with this new information, the original charge was revised slightly, and Sinatra was again arrested, this time for Adultery.
