Golden Gate Furniture Co.
Side Table // Red Oak Top
Product Description
Since it opened to traffic in May of 1937, the world has had a love affair with San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. Built during the Depression, this manmade monument symbolized the strength and determination of the human spirit, and has fascinated many with its awesome size and beauty. After 56 years, the severe winds and salt air of the open ocean had begun to deteriorate the pedestrian handrail, and it was replaced in 1993.
The compact and lightweight design of the Side Table uses the Golden Gate Bridge pedestrian handrail channel beam (at base of rail) for visual interest. While this Side Table base is normally crowned with a glass table top, for a limited time Golden Gate Furniture are offering the Side Table base with a solid red oak table top crafted by the Amish in Pennsylvania. Not only does the solid wood lend a more traditional style to the Side Table, its origins complement the table base in that the steel for the Golden Gate Bridge handrail was also originally fabricated in Pennsylvania by Bethlehem Steel.
