This stunning fossil is that of a 50 million year old soft-shelled turtle called Apalone Heteroglypta. This is a very rare and stunning find from the Green River Formation at the Fossil Shack’s American Fossil Quarry. The quarry is located at 7,300 feet in elevation.
Turtles are some of the most rare and collectable fossils in the world, and this one rivals any artwork in any museum. The stone also includes several natural fish, accenting the piece. Its beautiful natural earth tones make it the perfect focal point for any home or office.
This turtle comes from a deposit that holds the remnants of an ancient series of giant lakes.
