Meteorite Pendant // Campo Del Cielo
Product Description
This stylish Meteorite Pendant is charged with historical and scientific significance and it symbolizes the vastness of the universe.
Approximately five-thousand years ago the "Campo del Cielo" meteorites bombarded what is now Chaco Province in Argentina. The meteorites were well known to the indigenous people for centuries, who were aware of their celestial origin.
In 1576, Spanish explorers found the massive craters and monstrous iron pieces weighing several tonnes, along with many small fragments. However, they mistakenly thought they had discovered an abandoned iron mine. The origins and composition of the meteorites, which are primarily iron with traces of nickel and cobalt, weren't well understood until the late 18th century.
