Fossilized Fish Mural
Product Description
Here is a breathtaking stone slab with a "school" of fossil fish - 19 Knightia alta, which are a herring ancestor. These gorgeous fish are preserved in a natural arrangement, aesthetically balanced with a sense of movement. These prehistoric fish swam in ancient Eocene lakes in Wyoming, USA, 50 million years ago and were discovered in the famous Green River Formation, known to produce some of the most spectacular vertebrate fossils. Interestingly, larger Diplomystus have even been found with small Knightia preserved in their mouths. It took hours of painstaking work by a professional fossil preparator to reveal the fine bones of these fossil fish from the stone. Surely, it was worth the effort to bring these ancient fish to life!
