Fossilized Fish
Product Description
This small schooling fish, Knightia, was an important food source in the freshwater lakes that dotted Wyoming 50 million years ago in the Eocene. Occasionally, fossils have been found with Knightia trapped in the jaws or stomachs of larger predatory fish like Diplomystus or Mioplosus. It is classified in the Clupeidae family which includes present-day herrings.
In the Green River formation, incredible plates with large schools of Knightia have been found. In addition to numerous fish species, the Green River Formation is known for crocodiles, giant palms and ferns, birds, insects and the oldest bat fossil ever found. It’s certainly one of the most remarkable fossil localities in the world.

This affordable fossil is the perfect start to a collection or a great gift for science and nature enthusiasts.
