This amazing fossilized Mammoth Tusk is in impeccable condition - it’s an unbelievable discovery from Belovo, Siberia! The tusk comes from a young female mammoth (about 3 to 4 years old) that trekked through the frozen tundra more than 20,000 years ago during the Late Pleistocene. This gorgeous fossil is ready to be displayed in your home, office or museum. A custom-made stained oak stand showcases its beautiful curvature. Overall, this a superb tusk because of its completeness, intact tip and coloration — a stunning mixture of earthy browns and black. Importantly, this Ice Age treasure has not been painted over or had large areas filled like many tusks on the market.
Woolly mammoths are iconic Ice Age animals. Great herds of mammoths roamed across the Northern Hemisphere, with populations extended from the British Isles through Siberia and into North America. They were impressively large, reaching 11 feet tall at the shoulders and weighing up to 6 tonnes. Their tusks were larger and more curved than modern elephants, reaching up 13.5 feet in length! Wooly mammoths had many adaptations to a cold environment, most notably a dense fur coat. Furthermore, their ears and tails were short to prevent frostbite and heat loss. They also had very specialized teeth. High-crowned molars were well suited to grinding tough fibrous steppe grass.
