During the Achaemenid Persian empire, employing foreign soldiers as mercenaries became commonplace. One of the “fringe” territories that became a strong asset to the Persian army was that of the Scythians. The Scythians were a nomadic tribe who were renowned for their ability to shoot arrows with deadly accuracy from horseback. They also carried a curved short-sword, known as an akinakes.

This knife was designed after the akinakes, with its curved blade and upturned drop point tip. The flared butt of the handle is also modified from the styling of the time. Made of 1095 and 15n20 steels, the high carbon content of the blade gives this knife an extremely sharp and durable edge and makes it the ideal choice for a hunting knife.

Each knife in this collection is individually handmade with the same dedication to detail, and with all-natural materials. This means that each knife will vary slightly in its exact color, shape, and pattern, so you can rest assured that absolutely no two knives - even of the same model - will ever look identical or mass-produced.

Please be aware Damascus steel products will arrive fully coated in a protective, non-toxic mineral oil, which can be easily washed off before use. Damascus steel should be regularly oiled with any household oil over the course of its life to prevent corrosion.
