Olaudah Equiano was born in 1745 in Nigeria. Enslaved in his youth, he worked in the Caribbean before ending up in the United Kingdom. There he traded rum, eventually saving up the 40 pounds that he needed to buy his freedom. He would become one of the first African writers to have their work published in the UK and the US and it was his work as a freedom fighter, revolutionary, and abolitionist that would put his mark on history. This Afro-Caribbean rum pays tribute to his legacy and his name.

Equiano Dark Rum is smooth, fruit-forward, and delicious. There is a good reason why it's won Gold medals in every major Spirits competition so far. This spirit is a blend from one of the best emerging distilleries in Mauritius, Gray’s, and the world-renowned Foursquare Distillery on Barbados. Bringing these two rum purists together has meant that Equiano is a 100% natural rum with no spices, no additives, and no added sugar. All the rich and deep flavors come from the ex-Bourbon and ex-Cognac casks which they tropically mature in, making Equiano totally unique.

Tasting Notes
— Color: Deep, warm mahogany
— Aroma: Rich combination of butterscotch and toffee with warm sultanas and fig
— Palate: Notes of orange marmalade, figgy pudding, anise, toasted oak, brown butter, and dried berries
— Finish: Long and exceptionally smooth with a lingering note of smoked molasses

Equiano Light Rum follows in the multi-award-winning footsteps of the original. Gray’s Distillery creates a cane-based white Rum. It’s sent to the Foursquare Distillery— literally on the other side of the world—and married with molasses rum aged for a minimum of three years in ex-bourbon casks. The resulting spirit is well-balanced and bottled with no artificial colors, sweeteners, or flavorings.

Tasting Notes
— Color: Golden syrup
— Aroma: Bright with gentle notes of vanilla and toffee over raw cane, spring grasses, and grilled pineapple
— Palate: More vanilla and toffee, a dash of exotic fruit, Demerara, and a distant hint of menthol
— Finish: Medium length with a nice sweetness and blooming warmth
