Tobermory's 21 Year Old Manzanilla Cask Finish was aged in a refill hogshead from April 1996 to June 2017, and finished in one of the rarest casks in Scotland—Manzanilla Fino Sherry casks. The Manzanilla Cask Finish on the unpeated Tobermory perfectly balances fresh citrus fruit with a gentle spiciness, bitter coffee, and chocolate to create a delicious dram with a dry and long lasting finish. Only 290 bottles of this delightfully sweet and spicy Island whisky were produced.
Established in 1798, Tobermory Distillery (initially known as Ledaig Distillery), is the only distillery on the Isle of Mull and is one of the oldest commercial distilleries in Scotland. It is unique, not just because of its idyllic location, but because it produces two different, but equally alluring, single malts: the robust, smoky Ledaig and the fruity, unpeated Tobermory. Centuries have passed, but their uncompromising tradition, dedication, and devotion remain.
Tobermory Distillery uses unusually shaped stills that have both boil bulbs and steeply inclined s-shaped lyne arms (the pipe that runs from the still to the condenser), which lead to more refined notes in the finished spirit. The use of these unique stills, access to some of the purest water in the world, and the selection of specific casks for aging make the distinctive and noteworthy Scotch whiskies for which Tobermory is known.
Tasting Notes
— Color: Amber Gold
— Nose: Hints of dried fruit, pears, citrus, toffee, spiced orange, leather and oak.
— Palate: Dry and slightly oily, citrus and dried fruit notes, hints of coffee and bitter chocolate, rich oak and subtle vanilla with an orange spice.
— Finish: Dry and long lasting with hints of citrus, dried fruit and spice.
