FAQ
The rug has an estimated 0.1 thickness. The material underside is the back of the same leather. We don't use a felt backing as other companies usually do because cowhide is a natural material that may expand or contract with humidity weather changes. Our rugs lay flat on the floor, but when they have a backing it may lift in the corners, and this is why we don't back our rugs.
Can you vacuum this rug? How do you clean it?The following are the care and cleaning instructions:
COWHIDE CARE INSTRUCTIONS
When your rug first arrives, it may have creases from being folded in shipment. Lay out your rug and the creases should flatten out within a day or two. Natural leather is marked with scars, insect bites, veins, uneven hair density, shading, and grain variation. These natural imperfections serve as proof that only genuine hides have been used.
Durability and life expectancy are highly dependent on placement and care. With substantial foot traffic and constant use, some areas may thin over time. Rotating the rug periodically is recommended for even wear, thereby extending the lifespan of the rug.
Cowhide rugs are very easy to clean and due to the nature of cowhides, these rugs are highly resistant to staining. If possible, an occasional shaking to remove dust will maintain the natural characteristics of this product. Most spills float above the hair long enough to be easily wiped with a damp cloth or sponge.
Vacuum your rug regularly with suction only. Never use a roller brush. Vacuum from the middle to the outside edge of the rug moving in the direction of the hairs.
If you have any food or beverage spills, apply a mild soap and warm water solution to a clean cloth/sponge, and lightly wipe (but not rub) the hide in the direction of the hairs until the spot is dissolved. Rinse with a damp sponge to remove soap residue, avoiding hard or excessive rubbing.
Be sure NOT to soak the leather underside or else the leather will stiffen. Blot up excess liquid with a clean cloth or paper towel and leave to air dry. If it does get too saturated, take it outside and flip it backside up to dry without placing the rug in direct sunlight.
If you happen to have a grease or oil spill, wipe immediately with a dry, clean cloth, then run a smooth brush through the hairs, with the direction of the hairs and not against. Be sure to NOT apply any water or liquids.
NEVER USE saddle soap, abrasive cleaners, furniture polish or oils, varnish, alcohols, ammonia, silicone, or other cleaning products, as these products can damage the leather.
Cowhides in general are very easy to maintain and are naturally stain-resistant, as long as you catch any spills right away!
