Dave and Becky Corey created CORE Wines with the 2001 vintage, the same year they were married. In the beginning, there were only 250 cases made from their first six barrels of wine. Now, years later, they are still energized with the challenges and complexities of blending small lots of their favorite varietals, Mourvèdre and Grenache. Their focus remains on the vineyard, as they still believe that’s where the core of every wine begins.

The 2007 Cuvée Fletcher comes from Alta Mesa Vineyard in Santa Barbara County and was awarded a stunning 92 points by Wine Advocate. Its full of intense flavor of blackberries and plums, cinnamon clove spices, and a muted espresso nose. It offers a great minerality that expresses the vineyard characteristics, and has a strong finish that will stand up to hearty grilled foods or braised meats and tomato sauces.

Alta Mesa Vineyard is located in eastern Santa Barbara County at an elevation of 3200 ft. The 17-acre vineyard was farmed to yield an average of 2.5-3 tons/acre. The grapes were harvested and co-fermented with 5% whole cluster, extended skin contact during fermentation and stem inclusion. Aged for 42 months in a combination of 1-3 year old French barrels, the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.

This wine was dedicated to the Corey's oldest son and "arrow maker" Fletcher Cesare Corey, born June 1st, 2007.
