1945 S Jefferson Nickel PCGS 66 back off center error coin # 018

Being offered today is a SUPER RARE AND SUPERB example of a 1945 S (San Francisco) Jefferson Nickel ERROR COIN!! If you look on the reverse of the coin the strike is off center, making this an error coin. Error coins are much harder to find because the mint highly scrutinizes all coins for a perfect strike. It is very rare that these coins are released from the mint into the public.

This is also a Type 2 Jefferson Nickel. A larger mint strike was placed on top of Monticello vs. the side of the coin. This coin was made during WW II. During World War II, the Jefferson Nickel series underwent a significant change. These nickels were only minted from 1942 – 1945 creating a short set within the Jefferson Nickel series.

Since nickel was identified as a strategic metal for the war effort, the composition of the five-cent piece was changed to 35% silver, 9% manganese, and 56% copper.

This nickel is graded by PCGS in Mint State 66. The PCGS encapsulation guarantees the coin’s MS-65 condition.

This coin is an unusually nice high-end survivor with a sharp strike. The coin shows a nice reflective semi proof like obverse and reverse. Not quite worthy of the PL designation but the appearance adds significantly to the eye appeal. Please see the pictures for details.
