1923 DOUBLE ERROR VERY RARE STAR $ 1 Silver Certificate # 970

Being offered today is a VERY VERY RARE DOUBLE ERROR STAR 1923 $ 1 Silver Certificate large size series note. Star notes from the 1923 series are very rare in their own right. This note has two errors on it.

Only 1% of notes printed by the BEP are error notes. Of that, only 1% are put into circulation because their quality control doesn't catch them. Of that, only 1% is actually recognized by the public and saved for the collectors.

This note should have never passed inspection from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and never been allowed to be in circulation.

When The Bureau of Engraving and Printing or BEP prints a sheet of notes and they are damaged in any way, the notes must be destroyed. By law, they need to print notes bearing the damaged serial numbers. When they print the new notes, they must bear a STAR in front of the serial number. This designates the note as a “replacement note”. The STAR Notes are far more valuable than a regular printed note.

The first error is from insufficient inking. This happens when the number roller doesn’t get enough ink when it is printing the serial number. The note features an open number “0”, which looks like the letter “C” on the top right serial number. The bottom left serial number is *6074970 D and the top left serial number is *607497C D. This was caused by insufficient inking on the last number as it was being printed.

The second error is that the “0” and “D” are misaligned from the rest of the serial numbers. This happened when the serial number roller was not in the right position when the serial number was being printed. It had not completely rotated in to the correct position. The “D” on the left side serial number is higher as well!

This is known as a “3rd printing error”. The first printing is the back of the note. The second is the printing of the front of the note. The 3rd printing is the serial number.

Great colors and visuals throughout the note. You can clearly see the blue and red fibers all over the note. This was done by the BEP to prevent counterfeiting.
