PoliŹ»ahu met the AliŹ»i Aiwohikupua on the Eastern slope of Mauna Kea. The two fell in love and Aiwohikupua took PoliŹ»ahu home to his native Kauai. PoliŹ»ahu discovered that the aliŹ»i was already betrothed to a Maui princess. PoliŹ»ahu left in dismay, but not without placing a curse on the princess of Maui, chilling her to the bone.
