Cable Car Collectables
San Francisco Cable Car Rail
Product Description
This piece is without question, one of the most captivating and unique keepsakes you will ever find of San Francisco—a genuine slice of the iconic Cable Car rail from the original track laid 1889-1909. It was excavated from the Hyde Street track between Union and Filbert, the No. 7 Powell-Hyde line, during a two year restoration project in 1983.
This 110 year old track has been sandblasted to remove rust and concrete, cut, hand ground and, finally, surface polished. No two pieces of the rail are alike, as various parts of the cable car line experienced different wear and tear over the decades. As an antique metal, a natural oxidation process will occur, enriching the patina over time.
