It was in Baghdad in 2004 that former British PARA officer James Thornett started smuggling millions of dollars of high quality liquor down the most dangerous road in the world, to supply the famous Baghdad Country Club, a speakeasy he established and owned in the Green Zone. In a world of chaos, the club was an oasis of calm where style mixed with adventure and not a small amount of danger. They even wrote a book about him - and then he started making his own bourbon.

The Buckshee name is derived from the Arabic word "Bak-sheesh" meaning a small tip or bribe. It was adapted by the colonial soldiers after the first world war to mean a free drink. It was a term used commonly by James and the guys in his Unit.

This bourbon starts with the aroma of burnt sugar, cut wood, fresh fruit, and cool autumn nights, and goes down smooth. The initial heat fades to a silky softness, bringing a campfire smoke from the extra dose of charred American oak, with the crisp finish of juicy green apples and fresh-sawed oak.
