Bone Clones
Colobus Monkey Skull
Product Description
Found throughout the diverse regions of equatorial Africa, Colobus Monkeys inhabit lowland tropical rainforests, woodlands, wooded grasslands and along rivers. These medium sized monkeys have long tails and can be distinguished from other Old World monkeys by traits such as lack of cheek pouches and ischial callosities (sitting pads). The genus Colobus also have a reduction, if not absence of the thumb, which may be an adaptation for quick movements through the trees. This specimen exhibits classic skull characteristics of this genus; prognathic face, postorbital bar separating the orbit from the temporal fossa, and high cusped molars. However, there are some aberrant features on this specimen; a bone infection below the left eye orbit and bilateral bony growths that extend from the external auditory meatus.
