The first Balenciaga house of haute couture was founded in 1919 in San Sebastian, Spain by Cristóbal Balenciaga, where he quickly rose to fame creating pieces for the Spanish royal family and aristocracy. In 1937, Paris became home to the famed couturier, and by the 1960s, the House of Balenciaga had achieved international acclaim for their daring silhouettes and innovative use of materials. Today, the Balenciaga name is still regarded as the epitome of bold, experimental design, and continues to revolutionize the world of high fashion under the skillful guidance of Creative Director Demna Gvasalia.
