Mosasaurus were large marine reptiles reaching up to 50 feet in length. Abundant during the later half of the Cretaceous period, all fossil evidence indicates that the mosasaurus had disappeared by the time the Cretaceous period closed. Mosasaurus are thought to be related to the modern monitor lizards, which include the Komodo Dragon of Indonesia.
