Large Genuine Natural Campo del Cielo Meteorite // 6 lb
Product Description
Scientists believe that the Campo del Cielo mass probably originated within the Asteroid Belt located between Mars and Jupiter, and most likely formed around the same time as Earth— around 4.5 billion years ago. The craters, containing iron masses, were reported in 1576. The total weight of the pieces so far recovered exceeds 100 tonnes, making the meteorite the heaviest one ever recovered on Earth. Campo del Cielo refers to a group of iron meteorites or to the area where they were found situated on the border between the provinces of Chaco and Santiago del Estero, 1,000 kilometers (620 mi) northwest of Buenos Aires, Argentina. This meteorite slice has a subtle metallic, sheen. Although it's polished to a smooth finish, you can visibly notice the texture of the piece through its organic pattern.
