Moldavite— a type of tektite— is a forest green, olive green, or blue greenish projectile rock formed by a meteorite impact probably in southern Germany that occurred about 15 million years ago.

Scientists believe that tektites are the result of meteorite impact on Earth. The tektites formed when molten material created by the meteorite's hyper-velocity impact flew through the air and hardened into natural glass with aerodynamic forms and surface features.
