Roman Glass Double Unguentarium w/ Tiered Bale Handle
Product Description
Roman, late Imperial Period, ca. 4th to early 5th century CE. A stunning double unguentarium used to hold various types of cosmetic makeup, free-blown from translucent blue-green glass. A pair of fused tubes form the body resting upon a flat base and rough pontil scar, and a single applied trail of glass courses from the base up to the lightly flared rim.
Thick trails of similarly-colored glass form a pair of short bale handles, and an additional pair of thick trails stems from the crests of the lower handles and meets above the dual bodies. Fiery layers of silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence envelop the vessel and handles and nicely accentuate the soft aqua hue of the body.
