Greek Attic Black Figure Kylix
Product Description
Greece, Athens, ca. 540 to 530 BCE. An elegant Attic kylix (drinking cup), the vessel presenting a classic form with a deep bowl and twin, upturned loop handles upon a pedestal base. This is a beautiful example, made to be associated with the celebratory ceremonies of the Dionysiac cult.
The exterior walls are finely decorated via the black-figure technique. Sides A and B have nearly identical painted scenes, featuring two nude running athletes, both in profile. Black bands, highlights, and decorative palmettes to either side of each handle, as well as a small unpainted disc in tondo, complete the vessel.
This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
