Near East, Syria, Seleucid Dynasty, ca. 145 to 140 BCE. A silver Demetrius II tetradrachm with diademed head on front and eagle standing on prow, holding a trident club. One of the Hellenistic states, the Seleucid Empire was founded after the division of the Macedonian empire following Alexander the Great's death. Greek customs and culture dominated as a result.
