Nazca Polychrome Flying Mythical Being w/ Trophy Heads
Product Description
Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel with a round but stable base, a tapered cylindrical body, and a thin rim surrounding the deep basin. Atop the cream-hued ground is a grand depiction of the Anthropomorphic Mythical Being (AMB) with its broad whiskers, diamond-shaped eyes, and flowing body. The deity flies around the vessel with a multiple trophy heads on his cloak, loincloth, and in his hand, and with the other hand a lengthy scepter is held.
Condition: Professionally repaired from a few large pieces, with nearly invisible resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Minor abrasions and nicks to rim, body, and base, with light fading to original pigmentation. Light earthen deposits throughout.
