Late 19th C. Australian Aboriginal Wooden Boomerang
Product Description
Oceania, Central Australia, Aboriginal peoples, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A lovely boomerang meant for hunting rather than for display, hand-carved from hardwood using a sharpened stone and then burnished using a smooth stone. The body is gently curved and ready to be thrown, with both ends of relatively similar lengths. The obverse side is slightly convex, with both ends smooth and rounded, and the verso exhibiting a similar smoothness to its flattened surface.
Condition: Minor nicks to peripheries and both rounded ends, with light abrasions, and minor encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Faint traces of original red ochre pigment, and wonderful patina throughout.
