Chupicuaro Redware Tripod Rattle Dish
Product Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built redware pottery bowl boasting a round-bottomed form with tall walls and an in-folded rim. The highly-burnished vessel has a ring of raised ridges along the exterior rim, and deep red slip covers the entire exterior. The vessel rests upon a trio of hollow conical legs which house small pottery balls that create a rattling sound when jostled.
Condition: Losses to tips of all three feet, with minor fire-darkening to bottom of vessel, and minor abrasions to body and legs. Light earthen deposits and nice craquelure to slip pigment throughout.
