Ancient Greek 22K+ Gold Ring w/ Carnelian Intaglio
Product Description
Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. late 4th to 1st century BCE. A wonderful petite size ring formed from 96% gold (equivalent to 22K+ gold) with a thick shank, wide shoulders, and an ovoid bezel. Within the bezel is a round-topped carnelian intaglio bearing an etched image of a standing male figure, perhaps Mercury based on the caduceus-style staff he holds as well as his tapered helmet. Though made for petite fingers, this is a superb example of wearable Greek artistry!
Condition: Wearable as shown. Minor nicks and abrasions to intaglio and gold ring, otherwise intact and very good. Great patina throughout, and etched image on intaglio still visible.
