Anasazi Black on White Pottery Mug w/ Handle
Product Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Colorado and Arizona, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 1050 to 1150 CE. A hand-built pottery mug with a lightly rounded but stable base, a spherical body with an integral handle on one side, and a squat rim surrounding the deep interior cavity. The white-slipped vessel is densely decorated with black-painted linear motifs interspersed with abstract linear forms bearing stepped terminals. A fine example of Anasazi utilitarian artistry!
Condition: Professionally repaired from multiple pieces with restoration to roughly 5% of overall surfaces, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor abrasions to base, body, handle, and rim, with light fading to areas of original pigment, and light encrustations within body. Nice traces of original pigment throughout.
