20th C. Mexican Noriega Steel Machete / Scimitar
Product Description
North America, Mexico, ca. 20th century CE. A handsome steel scimitar or machete, featuring a slightly curved blade with a wide tip that is thin in cross-section and sharpened on its inside edge. The cast steel handle and guard feature the head of an eagle on the pommel and a wrapped leather middle for ease of grip. The maker's mark is partially obscured by patina and wear, but what remains reads "No". This blade is from the Noriega company.
Condition: Rich patina on blade, which has sharpening marks down its length and is missing its very tip. Maker's mark, on the blade near the guard, is almost entirely worn away, with the "No" still visible. The handle has some small nicks and chips commensurate with age.
